Why would someone lie so much?

So i have known this girl for almost 10 years, and if i had a best friend i guess it would be her. Shes an awesome person for the most part and we have a lot in common but she lies about pretty much everything, even stupid crap that no one really cares about. I will give them a chance to say what they have to and being knowledgeable of all Christian denominations I know their heresies. The same with non Christian belief systems, I do not debate or have dialog with them unless I am familiar with the tenants of their faith. I have this so-called "friend" that I thought was my friend. She's 39 and I'm 34. She goes to the same college I go to, but she is in the Nursing program already (RN) and I am still taking prereqs for it. I was accepted into the Honors Program of my college about 2 weeks ago, but I will start taking the rest of prereqs as Honors beginning this Fall. I told this "friend" of mine, and she was so happy for me at first. She was the one that had been telling me "don't go into the Honors program because it's harder, it's challenging, it's going to bring your GPA down, etc". So I went ahead, applied and was accepted into it anyway. Today she called me (she's always depressed, tired, frustrated) and said "How do I get into the Honors Program?" I asked her why she wants to join the Honors program, since she's got 1 year left to finish her nursing school (she finished all her prereqs). She said, well you're on it, I want to get on it too! I told her that when I first wanted to join it, she was the one that put me down for it, but now she wants it too! Her GPA is about 3.1 until now, and mine is 4.0. So she likes to compete with me. I am not worried about competing with her because 1-she's suposed to be my friend and 2-she's already into the nursing program and I haven't even applied yet. So what's her problem? Jealousy? Besides that, I am getting tired of her calling me often and being so negative, gossiping and complaining about people we know. I want to hang out with positive people. I dont know, but I'm pretty sure somethings lose up there. Okay for example, i feel like 95% contempt for everything, i never feel empathy for others, i even tend to laugh at things like people falling down stairs. I hate my life, how do i go on?

I never thought i was a suicidal person. I have thought about suicide a lot over the years, how easy it would be just to end everything. I've always had great empathy for those who have lost a loved one due to suicide, and also for those who have contemplated or committed suicide. To actually want to end your life is a very depressing and horrifying feeling. Sometimes i wish i had the strength to end my life, to just wake up one day and know that tomorrow it will all be over. I have been with him for a year, and they have a son together. He sees his son on weekends. Ok so a friend of mine who I told that I liked him but ok with being friends since he was seeing someone sometimes texted me back. I've been with my boyfriend 3 months. Right after we started dating he had an accident and is still recovering from multiple broken bones. However since being home for the past 2 months he's really not like that anymore. Why is eye contact so hard?

ive had this problem with eye contact for over a year now and im 18. I never had it before i always made eye contact as a kid and later in life but ever since i had an anxiety attack i cant do it. I can't trust others any more?

It looks like many people just don't care... and it really bothers me and hurts me. Maybe because I'm in UC Berkeley Engineering department where all the smart nerds are at. It's fine that they can be busy. But it really bothers me when my friends just leave class without telling me ahead that they are busy. It makes me assume they are angry at me if they do it continuously. And asking them to letting me know makes them angry somehow (as one of them called me "insecure") or saying at least hi or bye when you see your friend in the elevator. The editor sent it back because he said the EEG readings couldn't be from "real" people. Hair considers them monsters and aren't really human. Yeah, that's definitely short man syndrome, and it's the really awkward type since he behaves like a little girl. Your ex probably had an inferiority complex and was extremely uncomfortable with his height. I'd say you really can't blame him for acting that way, but you definitely didn't have to put up with it - tolerating someone trying to steal your place as the woman in the relationship. Most short guys get over it since they have to man up and stop compensating in petty ways, but he didn't reach that point. The EU is made up of many countries, each country competes at the olympics under their own flags, not the whole EU. But USA competes as 1 whole country? Why? States like California would win alot of medals.

This is an interesting question. Oddly enough, I can relate. When I was growing up I too was picked on by black people. They didn't like the way I talked or made fun of the way I dressed and a whole host of other things and I was very resentful. I grew up not wanting to be around them at all. And their absence was perfectly fine by me. My school was all white, my neighborhood was all white as well as my church until my later years. One day when I was at college, some white people started treating me funny as well and it hit me: Wait! I'm black! I am not being smart or funny. I didn't really know who I was. I didn't learn about black history or any other minority history for that matter really until college. I was mortified. I didn't know where I belonged. I was pretty cold and unsympathetic when I did learn the history because I felt that it had nothing to do with me. I couldn't have been more wrong. By embracing people of all different cultures and walks of life, my world has been so much more full and rich. I said all of this to say that you may not really be racist, just misguided by the way you were treated and yes, I agree. It is a defense mechanism. When you really want to get over it, you will, but not until. It takes time and effort and whether you wish to put in either is really up to you. Just don't let it fester to the point that it gets you into trouble because left unchecked, it will. Good luck.

Ok wel there is this girl in my year who acts in a way often that makes me think she likes me. She is pretty and has lots of friends. I have been hanging around these muslims (middle eastern ones) for a while at school. What is wrong with me?

Today, i crashed with my motorcycle, nothing serious, i just got a medium big road rash on my leg. I didn't want to tell my parents cause i know they would get upset (im 15, i live with my parents of course). When i got home, the road rash was really hurting, so i thought i should get a bandage for it. But when i got to the medicine cabinet, i saw there was only 1 bandage left. Then i thought, "what if someone else needs a bandage in the future, what if they cant handle the pain as well as i can?" So i didn't take it, cause i didn't want anyone else to have the pain i was having. The feel of empathy for this fictitious person was enormous, even though no one was hurt. It was just my imagination... Now my "rash" is not hurting so much anymore but the bottom line is, i didn't take a bandage cause i thought someone else will need it more than i do at some point in the future.... Speed problems with my horse?

So I own a 13 year old Appendix Quarter Horse gelding. At the end of April he was ruuning 16.3's in barrel racing at an arena. A huge wave of EHV-1 hit our area, so I was out of competing for about a month. And while I was out of competing, I did practice with him on barrels, poles, etc. Now there's a summer series of speed at the same arena we were running 16.2 and 16.3's at. Now he's running 17.0's and 17.5's there. The first Summer Series, he ran a 25.4 in poles, a 17.5 in barrels and a 10.4 in straitaways. Before he was running 23.1's in poles, 16.2's in barrels, and 9.8's in straits. I went and ran him again today, we got a 17.0 in barrels and 10.4 again in straits. What's wrong? It's like all of my horse's speed has dissapeared! Pleas help! Thanks so much!

Does my friend have a disorder?

As much as I love/loved this guy, I can't help but feel there's something wrong with him. He is cocky, and believes he is better than others frequently. He is promiscuous, during his relationships he has, to my knowledge, been seeing other girls on the side and may have fooled around with them as well. He has a constant need for attention; if something the least bit unfortunate happens in his life, he milks it: he will act moody and look for attention, going as far as to become incredibly defensive if you try to get him to see that his situation is not completely unfortunate compared to other people's. He has no empathy; he doesn't think about how others will feel in result of his actions, most likely why he sees girls on the side. He is actually quite charming; I suppose that's what women see in him, and he has plenty of friends despite the despicable things I know that he does. He has been known to drink when he's "depressed", and has no problem voicing it; to me it's for attention. He did something similar after one of his break ups when he claimed he was going to try cigarettes to "deal with the pain". I later found out that this was a lie, more attention grubbing. He is between two girls right now, and he claims he doesn't know which one to choose because he "doesn't want to hurt anyone". Stringing them along will just make it worse. He says his greatest fear is hurting people, when he does it all the time. His rationalization for all the terrible things he does it that "we're all going to die anyway". He is malicious, and states things purely for the sake of angering others rather than debating intelligently. He's going to find himself alone if he continues to act like this. Does this sound like any sort of disorder? I'd appreciate informed answers, possibly from people that specialize in this sort of thing.

Help with this decision?

My counselor told me I probably need medication for depression, which I know is true, but I'm afraid and don't know how to ask for it. I'm afraid because I don't know what it's going to do to my body, and I don't want to forget what it feels like to be in pain, or loose that empathy with others who are suffering. I am empathic to a fault, is there something wrong with me?

When I'm with someone, before they even start talking I instantly mold to their mood. I'm not exaggerating either, it's like I can sense what their mood is and I can't help but mimic it, even if I don't want to. I love my teacher more than my parents? How is that possible?

I thought i love my parents but know i realize that what i feel for them it's just gratitude and empathy. I care for them and i think that they love me but their love it's conditional. They love me when i am successful but when i am depressed and i need advice they really don't care...they just say life is hard what can you do, you have to accept that and live like that unhappy...I had a bad childhood, they really were irresponsible parents and selfish. So I am a social worker and am all for fighting for and helping those who are oppressed and need help. I have had several arguments with my fiance because he feels completely different than I do. I am very passionate about what I chose to do in life and he doesn't respect it and at times I just want to not talk to him after our discussions. I know that no couple will ever be completely similar and if so it would be boring in a way but is this too much difference? For one, I support gay people and think they should have equal rights, and he is completely against it. He feels it is there fault for being in the situation they are in without taking poverty, abuse, neglect, substance abuse into consideration.
