Do you consider asking someone about the following topics to be rude?

I personally dont think any of those are rude questions. Its not big deal. But there are people that think otherwise, I was training a new nurse at a place I use to work at. The silence between us while I wasn't instructing was KILLING me so I started small talk and she was completely offended by me asking if she had kids was married and those types of questions.
